Situated between Oromia and Somali Regional State, Babile Elephant Sanctuary covers an area of about 6982 square kilometres and is a significant destination for wildlife watchers. The Sanctuary is about 35 kms southeast of Harar. It was established for the protection of elephant, but this semi-arid environment is also a habitat for several mammals including black manned lion, Kudu (greater and lesser), wild Ass, and others.
